OVERALL OPINION I have a pair of SE 1A from a little over a year now. Could I clarify to the Ambler's quality / price ratio without question. For just over 200 euros you get a pair of microphones very productive. The three mics tested for this review are all front-address, phantom-powered models with varying features, all from the same family of origin. The SE1A ($199), an improvement on the company’s original SE1, is a solidly constructed, no-frills fixed-pattern condenser. The X1 A isn’t going to replace any of the classic mics in our mic cabinet, but it would make for a great first microphone for anyone starting out in the world of recording.
